While delivering the Republican Thanksgiving address, Sen. [crscore]Mike Lee[/crscore] said despite challenges in Washington, the country still has a lot to be grateful for.

The Utah Republican says too many Americans are being “stretched to the breaking point” due to the burden of payroll taxes, health-care costs and rising home prices while salaries stay stagnant.

“We have too many Americans trapped in poverty, sometimes for generations, and often because the dysfunctional, big-government programs that are supposed to help them only make it harder and less likely for them, and their children, to build a better life,” he says.

But the senator went on to say despite the problems the U.S. faces, he believes the country’s best days are yet to come and encourages the rest of the country to follow Utah’s lead when it comes to limited government and privatized welfare programs.

“I know it’s going to take hard work to overcome the problems besetting our economy,” he said. “But the American people never shrink from our greatest challenges. We always confront them, head on.”
