President Barack Obama spoke in Paris urging the world to act on global warming to defy Islamic terrorists, also warning humanity that the day of climate reckoning is almost upon us.

“No nation large or small, wealthy or poor, is immune,” said the president speaking Monday morning. “There is such a thing as being too late. And when it comes to climate change that hour is almost upon us.”

Obama took the opportunity to reject global terrorism in his speech to world leaders, implying that action on global warming is the world’s best response to the barbaric, humanity deprived, theologically driven Islamic State, reports CNN.

“What greater rejection of those who would tear down our world than marshaling our best efforts to save it,” said President Obama.

The climate conference seeks to reach a global consensus on carbon dioxide emissions with legally binding reduction targets. The conference is also expected to yield global investments in renewable energy and commitments from developed nations to phase out fossil fuels, reports The Washington Post. It is unclear how world leaders will address the immense cost of renewable energy, especially when it comes to poor nations, as the technology is heavily dependent on subsidies.

The conference is an opportunity for the President to meet with world leaders on other pressing global crises, including a meeting with China’s president and talks with Vladimir Putin regarding the Syrian conflict, reports The Washington Post.

President Obama took time in his speech to apologize to the world for the heinous polluting actions of America, blaming the U.S. for our enormous contributions to global pollution.

“I’ve come here personally as the leader of the world’s largest economy and the second largest emitter, to say that the United States of America not only recognizes our role in creating this problem, we embrace our responsibility to do something about it,” said the president. “We have broken the old arguments for inaction. We’ve proved that strong economic growth and a safer environment no longer have to conflict with one another.”
