This week’s — second — high school teacher under investigation for engaging in inappropriate conduct with an underage student is Shannon Fosgett.
This week, Fosgett, an earth science teacher at Murrieta Valley High School amid the suburban sprawl of Southern California, was placed on paid, indefinite administrative leave, reports area television station KTLA.
Murrieta Valley Unified School District officials took the action after local police notified them of the pending investigation.
District administrators are releasing very few details.
“The teacher is on administrative leave and she will be out of the classroom indefinitely pending the outcome of the investigation,” the district said in a statement. “As with every district employee, all the appropriate background checks were conducted prior to her being hired.”
“This is a very unfortunate and disappointing situation and school and district administrators are working closely with Murrieta Police Department on their ongoing investigation.”
KTLA interviewed a student on the street — very literally, just showing the kid’s shoes and the bottom of her black leggings.
“I heard rumors, but I didn’t really want to believe them until they were confirmed,” the student explained. “And, when they were confirmed, I still kind of don’t want to believe them, because it seems really out of character for her.”
“She’s a really good teacher,” the unidentified student also said.
“She was more the kind of teacher that would just help students, not like get in their personal space.”
Fosgett’s teacher page at the Murrieta Valley High website probably isn’t long for this world but it was still extant as of early Thursday morning. “Mrs. Fosgett, Room 720,” it says, and it features a quarter-view of the earth from outer-space.
Fosgett appears to have taken down her Twitter account.
The Murrieta Police Department issued two statements on Dec. 1. One was about preparation for El Nino. The second concerned Fosgett.
“On November 30, 2015 the Murrieta Police Department was informed of an alleged inappropriate relationship involving a teacher at Murrieta Valley High School with a student who is minor,” the police statement says. “An investigation is ongoing by Murrieta Police Detectives. No details of the investigation will be released to the media at this time.”
