Ben Carson lashed out against the Republican National Convention on Friday, culminating in a threat to leave the party if rumors of a brokered GOP convention prove true.

On Thursday, The Washington Post reported that several high ranking GOP delegates met to discuss the possibility of a brokered convention, meetings Carson claimed would eventually “destroy the party.”

“If it is correct, every voter who is standing for change must know they are being betrayed. I won’t stand for it,” Carson said in a Thursday statement. “I assure you Donald Trump won’t be the only one leaving the party.”

“I am prepared to lose fair and square, as I am sure is Donald,” Carson said. “But I will not sit by and watch a theft. I intend on being the nominee. If I am not, the winner will have my support. If the winner isn’t our nominee then we have a massive problem.”

When asked if Carson is seriously considering breaking the RNC pledge, his campaign supplied TheDC with the following statement:

The pledge, and Dr. Carson’s support for the Party, is predicated on an even playing field. If it turns out that Party bosses have been or are conspiring to block a popularly elected candidate, e.g. Trump or anyone else not in their favored club, then Dr. Carson will assess his Party participation going forward. What is certain is that Dr. Carson abhors their apparent duplicitous, inside the Beltway games.
