LAS VEGAS — Dr. Ben Carson is easing up on his criticism of the Republican National Committee.

In a brief interview ahead of Tuesday night’s debate here at The Venetian, Carson told The Daily Caller: “They seem to be moving in the right direction.”

Carson’s reel back follows several days of criticism he directed at the party’s leaders for the supposed mistreatment of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.

News that the RNC had plans in place for a “brokered convention” — where party delegates seize control of picking a nominee in a contested race — caused Carson to threaten to leave the Republican Party.

Carson told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that RNC Chairman Reince Priebus offered an explanation:

“He told me those are routine meetings,” Carson told ABC. “They have them all the time. This was no different than any of the others, that the last thing that they would do is engage in back room dealing. But, you know, the jury is out. We’ll certainly be keeping a close eye on things.”

Carson also told TheDC that he’s “absolutely” ready for the debate and doesn’t have any “particular fight” he’s prepping for.

The retired neurosurgeon also said the debate will be an opportunity to rescue his flagging poll numbers.

“It’ll be an opportunity to show people your chops,” Carson said.
