Justin Bieber was baptized in the unlikeliest of places.

The 21-year-old pop star’s “redemption story” is featured in the January issue of GQ. In his interview, Bieber told the story of how he came to be baptized in an NBA star’s bathtub.

Bieber was “ravaged by feelings of loss” one evening when he reached out to Carl Lentz, a pastor at Hillsong Church, and told him he wanted to be baptized. (RELATED: Justin Bieber’s Friend Died In Paris Terrorist Attack)

Lentz then took Bieber to a Manhattan hotel where his church regularly baptizes people, but there was a crowd of hundreds of people and paparazzi waiting for them so they left.

They visited another hotel with a pool but there was a crowd there, too.

Then Lentz called former Knicks center Tyson Chandler. (PHOTOS: Model Makes Outrageous Claims About Sex With Justin Bieber)

“Carl has many boys, but in this case his boy was Tyson Chandler who was then on the New York Knicks,” the story reads. “It was 2 a.m. by now. The Knicks had beaten the Miami Heat earlier that night.”

Chandler offered up the pool at his place, but when they realized it was closed, they resorted to his bathtub. (RELATED: Justin Bieber Was Just Asked About His Religion — His Answer? Shocking)
