Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush on Sunday laughed off the implication that he has “less of a chance in Iowa and South Carolina” as indicated by his campaign canceling ad buys in those states.

“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace asked Bush, “why did you decide to cancel the ad buys in two states, keep them up in New Hampshire, and basically get everybody out of the headquarters in Florida?”

Bush said he did so in order to focus on “voter contact.”

“Well based on what we know — the Right to Rise PAC continues to do advertising on television, and we ought to be focused on voter contact,” he told Wallace. “And so it was an adjustment based on the reality of where we are. That’s how leaders lead.”

Last week the Bush campaign cancelled ad buys in Iowa and South Carolina, two early battleground states. His staff was mostly redeployed to New Hampshire.

“Does that indicate that you think you have less of a chance in Iowa and South Carolina, putting more eggs in New Hampshire?” Wallace asked Bush.

“No. No, because we’re excited about Iowa and South Carolina as well,” Bush responded with a laugh. “Look, we want to go identify every voter and make sure they vote. The way you do that is the old-fashioned way in these early states. that’s the mission and objective.”
