Jeb Bush says that because of Donald Trump, all of the other presidential candidates are “in the witness protection program.”
Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Bush denied that he would need help from his brother George W. Bush to stand up to Trump claiming, “I think that’s my job. You’ve got to take on the bully head on and that’s what I’m doing.”
Panelist and Bloomberg Politics Managing Editor Mark Halperin asked Bush, “You said it’s important to stop Donald Trump, you said you’re a lonely voice in speaking out against him and you said your brother is popular. Would you like the 43rd President of the United States to speak out against Donald Trump publicly, as you are?”
Claiming that it was his job to take on Trump, Jeb Bush suggested, “Everybody else is in the witness protection program, I’ve noticed. But look, you’ve got to stand up to a guy, when he says the things he says and guarantees that conservative is not going to be elected president, that’s wrong.”
Bush argued, “I’ve been a conservative all my adult life. And that’s what I’m fighting for is to make sure the conservative cause is allowed to actually govern. And when we do, great things will happen for our country.”
Both hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski loved the “witness protection program” line and Scarborough said through lots of laughter, “By the way, that’s a Jeb I’ve known for 20 years. Everybody is in the witness protection program.”
