The aggressively anti-Christian Secular Coalition for America announced Tuesday it hired a Christian executive director.
The coalition hired Larry T. Decker, an experienced lobbyist who calls himself an “unaffiliated Christian.”
“I was raised Christian but for years I have been unaffiliated because I cannot reconcile my values with traditional Christianity, including their concept of God,” Decker told Patheos. “Right now, if I have to put a label on it, I would say that I identify as an unaffiliated Christian. And like millions of people in our country, my belief system continues to evolve and is entirely personal to me.”
It is comprised of multiple separation of church and state groups, including the Freedom From Religion Foundation and American Humanist Association, aggressive atheist groups that sue school districts and local governments over public displays of religion.
“Our nation takes pride in our commitment to civil rights and civil liberties,” Decker said in a statement. “In 2016, everyone should feel comfortable being open about who they are and unafraid to reject the imposition of other people’s beliefs in their own lives. Unfortunately, hateful and insulting rhetoric toward nontheists and minority faiths cause many to feel that there is no place for them in our society. The Secular Coalition will staunchly defend those who are stigmatized and remind candidates and elected officials of their duty to serve citizens of all faiths and none.”
The Daily Caller has a rich history with the coalition. The coalition awarded TheDC the “most unethical news publication” after TheDC editor Christopher Bedford mocked then-communications director Lauren Anderson Youngblood in a string of hilarious emails. The easily-offended Youngblood took personal offense and told then-executive director Edwina Rogers.
Rogers emailed a complaint to TheDC founder and editor in chief Tucker Carlson, and oddly his father, who as Bedford noted had never been involved with TheDC other than his role in fathering Carlson. Rogers has since been fired and reportedly filed suit against her former employers. Rogers also took flak for her appearance in a television pilot where she wrapped gifts in sheets of uncut dollar bills.
