Former New York Gov. George Pataki announced Tuesday that he is endorsing Sen. [crscore]Marco Rubio[/crscore] for the Republican nomination.

“After much deliberation and conversations with several candidates, I’m proud to endorse Marco Rubio for President and I will do whatever I can to help his campaign,” Pataki said in a press release.

The former governor stressed Rubio’s national security bonafides as a reason for his endorsement, saying, “Today, America is at greater risk of attack since than at any time since Sept 11th. I am convinced that no one running better understands the threats facing our nation and I know Marco Rubio will do what it takes to keep America safe.”

Pataki also criticized current GOP front-runner Donald Trump in his endorsement: “Americans feel divided because in Obama, Trump and Clinton we have had leading figures who exploit division for political gain.”

Gov. Pataki dropped out of the GOP primaries in late December after struggling throughout the race with low poll numbers.
