Could be something. Could be nothing. Either way, there’s nothing “racist” about being concerned.
A man was arrested carrying two handguns and a copy of the Koran at the Disneyland Paris amusement park outside Paris on Thursday, French officials said.
France remains in a state of emergency after Islamist gunmen and suicide bombers killed 130 people in a series of jihadist attacks in and near Paris in November last year.
A police source said the 28-year-old man of European origin arrested at Disneyland had been carrying the guns, one of them an automatic handgun, concealed in a bag with the religious text.
The man may or may not be traveling with a woman, who may or may not be at large.
I can’t blame the Paris police for being extra-vigilant after the attacks last November, but I hope this turns out to be nothing. Automatic weapons are prohibited in France, but the press is notoriously inept when it comes to defining “automatic.” No word yet if the guns were registered. And of course, there’s no law against owning a Koran.
