In a recent interview with the Texas Tribune, convicted cop killer Juan Leonardo Quintero explained how sanctuary cities allowed him to evade police capture after illegally entering the United States for the second time.

Quintero — who shot and killed Houston police officer Rodney Johnson in 2006 — first came to America in 1994 but was deported back to Mexico in 1998 after being charged with sexual indecency with a 12-year-old girl.

Despite being told he would face 10-20 years in federal prison if he were caught again in the United States, Quintero returned to his family and job in Houston seven months later, “knowing Houston police were forbidden to ask his citizenship status.”
