NFL legend and former Green Bay Packers hero Bart Starr apparently still suffers from an injury he received from a brutal beating while playing for Alabama.

The former Packers quarterback’s wife Cherry told AL.com that Starr was brutally beaten with wooden paddle until his back “resembled a piece of raw meat” by members of the university’s “A-Club.” (RELATED: Minnesota Suspends Players For Alleged Sex Tape Tweet)

Starr openly struggled with a back injury throughout his storied NFL career but the exact cause of the injury was never known. According to Cherry, the injuries were so bad that it resulted in Starr being hospitalized, essentially ending his college career and making him physically unqualified for military service.

“But his back was never right after that,” Cherry said. “It was horrible. It was not a football injury. It was an injury sustained from hazing. His whole back all the way up to his rib cage looked like a piece of raw meat. The bruising went all the way up his back. It was red and black and awful looking. It was so brutal.” (RELATED: Johnny Manziel Parties After Investigation Sent To Grand Jury [VIDEO])

One possible explanation for the motive behind the brutal beating is the fact that Starr secretly married Cherry, who was a student at Auburn.

Starr was eventually able to have an incredible NFL career despite the brutal injuries he suffered in college. He won five NFL championships and two Super Bowls with the Green Bay Packers and is widely considered one of the greatest players in the history of football.
