Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation James Comey says, “I am very close, personally” to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server.

During testimony before the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Comey told Republican Ohio Rep. [crscore]Steve Chabot[/crscore], “[T]he FBI tries to do all of its work: independently, competently, and promptly. That’s our goal and I’m confident it’s being done that way but I can’t give you any more details than that.” (RELATED: Rep. Issa: FBI ‘Would Like To Indict Both Huma [Abedin] And Hillary Clinton’)

Chabot began his questioning saying, “A few weeks back, the FBI’s general council James Baker acknowledged the FBI is quote ‘Working on matters related to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server’ end quote. And then the White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest stated that quote, ‘Some officials over there [referring to the FBI] had said that Hillary Clinton is not a target of this investigation and that it’s not trending in that direction’ end quote. And the President then weighed in, even though he apparently had never been briefed on the matter commented that he didn’t see an national security implications in Hillary’s emails and obviously, this is a matter of considerable import.”

“Is there anything that you can tell us as to when this matter might be wrapped up one way or another?” the congressman asked.

“I can’t congressman. As you know we don’t talk about our investigations. What I can assure you is that I am very close, personally, to that investigation to ensure that we have the resources we need including people and technology. And that it is done the way the FBI tries to do all of its work: independently, competently, and promptly. That’s our goal and I’m confident it’s being done that way but I can’t give you any more details than that.” (RELATED: MSNBC: FBI’s Hillary Investigation ‘Far More Advanced’ Than Public Knows [VIDEO])
