Georgia Rep. [crscore]John Lewis[/crscore] told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Tuesday night that Donald Trump’s proposed border wall would be “repugnant” because it would try to “keep certain individuals out of our country.”

“Here in Georgia, we recognize the fact that we’re one people, we’re one family, and we all live in the same house,” the Georgia Democrat explained.

“I don’t see him as in keeping with some of the Republican leaders that have emerged in the recent past,” Lewis said.

“It is repugnant to suggest that you’re going to keep certain individuals out of our country or that you’re going to build walls,” he added. “Who are you trying to keep in and who are you trying to keep out?”

Earlier in the interview, Lewis noted that the South has “come so far.”

“We’ve made so much progress. We don’t want to stand still. We don’t want to go back. We want people to lead that can bring us together and not divide people.”
