The gay wing of the Republican party wants answers from presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Log Cabin Republicans President Gregory T. Angelo told The Daily Caller News Foundation that Trump has made some promising statements on gay issues, such as when he said he accepted the Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage as “the law of the land” or when he told a lesbian reporter gay Americans could expect progress with him as president. But Trump has also said some conflicting statements, like when he told Fox News he would “strongly consider” appointing Supreme Court justices who would overturn same-sex marriage.

Angelo told TheDCNF the Log Cabin Republicans reached out to the Trump campaign in November but didn’t hear back. The group released a video Monday calling on Trump to take a clear stance.

“Time is getting short on the primary clock,” Angelo told TheDCNF. “I believe gay voters deserve clarification on this.”

Angelo said same-sex marriage is a settled issue and that Republicans continuing to fight it only hurt themselves with the public. He pointed to Ohio Gov. John Kasich as another potentially beneficial candidate for gay Republicans because he doesn’t want to rehash the battle of same-sex marriage but also respects the rights of private vendors who do not want to service gay weddings.

“Kasich has actually done a very good job threading the needle on this issue,” Angelo said. “If the gay rights movement in the us has now boiled down to a war against photographers and bakers and florists, we are going to lose America and are going to lose the goodwill that has built up over the better part of a decade that allowed us to achieve marriage equality.”
