Former Basketball Star Charged With Sexual Assault

Former Michigan State star and NBA player Mateen Cleaves has been charged with sexual assault.

Cleaves faces three counts including criminal sexual conduct, one count of assault with intent to commit criminal sexual penetration and one count of unlawful imprisonment, according to ESPN. The former Spartans guard is expected to be arraigned on Thursday.

Cleaves met a woman at charity golf outing in Michigan and allegedly offered her a ride back to the golf club after getting drinks at the bars, but instead took her to a motel where he sexually assaulted her, according to police from Wayne County, Michigan. (RELATED: Former Football Star Arrested After Allegedly Beating His Girlfriend)

The woman was able to eventually escape from Cleaves and seek help.

Cleaves former head coach Tom Izzo told the media, “I don’t see him doing anything against somebody’s will, I really don’t. I think I know him well enough for that.” (RELATED: Read The Graphic Police Report From Montee Ball’s Arrest For Allegedly Beating His Girlfriend)

The former NBA player could get up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
