MSNBC anchor Brian Williams said Eugene Robinson is “Pulitzer Prize-winning communist” for The Washington Post instead of a being a “Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist” Monday.

After MSNBC’s completed their coverage of Barack Obama’s press conference with Cuban leader Raul Castro, Robinson was on to break down the news. (RELATED: Raul Castro And Barack Obama Share Awkward Limp-Wristed End To Press Conference)

In a botched attempt to thank Robinson for his appearance, Williams said, “Eugene Robinson of The Washington Post, Pulitzer Prize-winning communist.”

Realizing what he had said, Williams repeated the accusation, “communist” adding “wow.”

Laughing it off, Robinson said, “Thanks, Brian.”

“Columnist,” Williams then said, correcting his mistake adding, “I think I have that on the mind. You are not in fact a communist. You are a friend of ours. And a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist with The Washington Post.”
