A new report from Politico shines light on how [crscore]Marco Rubio[/crscore] refused to join a proposed “unity ticket” with [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore], both before and after the Florida senator ended his White House bid.

According to Politico’s sources, Utah Sen. [crscore]Mike Lee[/crscore] has attempted on multiple occasions to broker a shotgun wedding between the former campaign rivals, yet Rubio has declined to partake in the efforts “to halt Donald Trump’s march to the Republican nomination.”

Additionally, the sources claim Lee — who endorsed Cruz on March 10 — unsuccessfully attempted to organize a meeting between the two prior to the Florida primary. (VIDEO: Rubio Suspends Campaign After Florida Loss)

Efforts to gain Rubio’s support have not been limited to Cruz’s congressional supporters.

Doug Deason — son of billionaire megadonor Darwin Deason — made multiple attempts to sway Rubio to drop out immediately following Super Tuesday back on March 1.

“Rubio was too pompous to act on it. He believed his own internal polls and there was no swaying him away from staying in the race through the Florida primary,” Deason told Politico. “If he had signed on before the first Super Tuesday, Cruz would have won all of the Texas votes and a lot more delegates. They may have very well won Florida.”
