A suicide attack at an Iraqi soccer stadium Friday left 30 dead and more than 60 seriously wounded.

According to AFP, the attack occurred during an awards ceremony taking place in Iskandariyah, a town about 25 miles south of Baghdad.

A local police captain explained “the suicide attacker blew himself up in the crowd” as officials were handing a trophy to the team in question.

Additionally, a medic from Iskandariyah hospital, where the wounded were treated, confirmed “the mayor died in [the] hospital as a result of the serious wounds he suffered in the blast.”

Fox News reports ISIS has taken responsibility for the attack.
