The Secret Service has shot down the petition calling for the allowance of the open carry of firearms at the GOP convention in Cleveland.

Secret Service spokesman Robert Hoback said in a statement that “only authorized law enforcement personnel” will be allowed to carry firearms. (RELATED: Petition Wants Open Carry At Republican Convention)

“Individuals determined to be carrying firearms will not be allowed past a predetermined outer perimeter checkpoint, regardless of whether they possess a ticket to the event,” Hoback said.

The GOP convention will be held at the Quicken Loans Arena in July.

At time of writing, the petition has more than 50,000 signatures.

The most-likely satirical or trolling petition argues that the banning of open carrying in the Quicken Loans Arena is “a direct affront to the Second Amendment and puts all attendees at risk.”

Convention spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski told The Hill, “The Republican Party has been and will continue to be a staunch supporter of the Second amendment. It is in our platform and is strongly supported by our candidates.”

Adding, “The Republican National Convention is a National Special Security Event which means the Secret Service is the lead agency and we will defer to their planning as it relates to safety and security of the convention.”
