Karen Giorno, Donald Trump’s southeast regional political director, says Sen. [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore]’s joke about running over Trump was “a death threat to our nominee to be.”

In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper “The Lead” on Thursday, claimed Cruz’s joke “offends me.” Adding, “It should offend every American. This is a presidential race. This is not a time to be joking about the front-runner and essentially running him over and causing him harm or death.” (RELATED: Cruz Jokes: Not Sure Which Pedal I’d Push If I Saw Trump In The Rear-View Mirror )

Giorno then argued, “To be honest with you, if he wasn’t Ted Cruz he probably would be reported and investigated by the Secret Service. That’s a death threat to our nominee to be.”

Alice Stewart, Cruz’s communications director responded, “It was a joke. It was late night comedy, give me a break. I mean, you know better than that. He was saying it in jest. Look, who is Donald Trump to be talking about something like that when he’s talked about walking down streets of New York shooting voters and they’d vote for him anyway. This is a joke, you know it, get over it. Stop, it was a joke, you know that.” (RELATED: Trump Says That He Could Shoot Somebody And ‘Wouldn’t Lose Any Voters’ )

Giorno tried to talk over Stewart claiming, “It was in poor taste and it was offensive.”
