In a video that progressives are celebrating as a win for social justice, a Pennsylvania mom recorded her six-year-old daughter’s reaction to the news that “daddy is a ‘she’ now.”
As her daughter absorbs the news from her carseat, Shalee Ellis presses for a reaction: “How does that make you feel?”
Six-year-old Layla responds: “Good!”
Seconds later she says, “I wanna be like a boy.”
Ellis never corrects her daughter, instead explaining that she feels “happy as a girl, and I’m going to stay like a girl. But daddy doesn’t feel happy as a boy, so we’ve decided to help him become the person that his brain and his heart tell him that he really is.”
While explaining daddy’s transition into “Mallory,” Ellis reaches back and clicks on a light, so as to get a better camera shot of her daughter’s face. The mother goes on to explain that her husband is going to start wearing makeup and women’s clothes. She later instructs Layla to begin addressing daddy as “her.”
Media coverage so far has described the video as “adorable” and “the sweetest reaction.”
