Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is the projected winner of the Wisconsin Democratic primary.

The win, which is Sanders’ sixth out of the past seven state contests, helps Sanders maintain momentum heading into the New York primaries, scheduled for April 19. He’ll need a successful showing there and other delegate-rich states like New Jersey and Pennsylvania if he is to have any hope of preventing Clinton from reaching the 2,383 delegates needed to secure the Democratic party nomination.

Clinton had 1,712 delegates headed into the Wisconsin contest. That includes 1,243 pledged delegates and 469 unpledged delegates, or superdelegates. Those delegates can shift their support ahead of July’s party convention if they choose.

Sanders had 1,011 total delegates — 980 pledged and 31 unpledged — heading into the primary.

In recent days, the Clinton campaign had all but conceded a win to Sanders in Wisconsin, which has 86 delegates on the table. Recent polls showed him leading Clinton by between two and eight points.

The two candidates will face off in the Wyoming caucuses on Saturday. They will meet face-to-face in Brooklyn on April 14 for a debate hosted by CNN.
