A woman is in police custody after she allegedly tailgated a car and rammed it several times while shouting about ISIS, accusing the driver of being a terrorist.
“She was shouting at me talking about how I’m from ISIS,” the victim told WUSA9. “She didn’t know me at all she just said I’m from ISIS, go back to my country and that I had been following her since three this morning. I didn’t take it personally because I know I’m not ISIS.”
Police arrested Julie Coryell, 46, at her home Woodbridge for the March 25 incident and charged her Tuesday with two counts of reckless driving, attempted malicious wounding and hit and run, reported WJLA.
The road rage occurred on the 8900 block of Ox Road near a Giant supermarket. The victim says he saw Coryell tailing him and pulled off into a strip mall. That’s when Coryell gunned her red convertible, ramming it multiple times into his car.
“She said that I was in ISIS,” the victim told WJLA. “She said that I had been following her since 3 a.m., and she said I need to go back to my country.”
The victim said he did not provoke her, to his knowledge, while driving, and does not know what prompted the violent and bizarre encounter. He pulled over into the Giant supermarket parking lot after noticing her erratic behavior in his mirror.
When he pulled in he says Coryell began smashing into his bumper. He got out of the car and walked in the supermarket, but Coryell followed him, continuing her tirade accusing him of terrorist activity, reported WUSA9.
“It was clear she had a mental disability,” the victim told WJLA. “She had a breakdown, like an episode basically.”
Police took Coryell to a nearby mental health facility for evaluation.
