NASA claimed Friday that part of its role in social media is to target and correct certain “end of the world-type” comments on Facebook before they go viral and terrify the masses.

The claim comes after NASA was caught criticizing a random man-made global warming skeptic on Facebook for supposedly misrepresenting the agency’s climate data. Ironically, the person targeted appeared to be attempting to refute comments they thought caused “end of the world” fear mongering.

“We feel it is our responsibility to target and correct the record when we feel people are using our data to make outrageous comments that could go viral,” John Yembrick, the social media spokesman for NASA, told The Daily Caller News Foundation Friday.
