In a departure from Orthodox tradition, a leading rabbi has signed off on the use of medicinal marijuana during Passover.
According to the Independent, the 88-year-old Belarusian rabbi Chaim Kanievsky claimed that while recreational marijuana use is still “certainly forbidden” during the holiday, medicinal use is kosher.
Kanievsky can be seen kissing and blessing marijuana leaves, which he notes have a “medicinal smell,” in a video recently uploaded to YouTube by the interest group “Cannabis Israel.”
