U.S. Army Decides Child Rape Is Bad After All

Last year, a Green Beret named Charles Martland was kicked out of the Army for “body slamming a local Afghani police chief… who had been allegedly raping young boys.” The man laughed it off, so Martland kicked his ass. Martland has maintained that the act was morally justified, and I know of no sane person who disagrees. Disciplining him was justified, but discharging him entirely was not.

It’s taken a while, but for once, justice has prevailed. Lucas Tomlinson, Fox News:

In a stunning reversal, the U.S. Army decided late Thursday to retain a decorated Green Beret it had planned to kick out after he physically confronted a local Afghan commander accused of raping a boy over the course of many days.

Sgt 1st Class Charles Martland confirmed the Army’s decision to retain him when reached by Fox News, who has been covering the story in depth for the past eight months and first broke the story of the Army’s decision in August to kick out Martland over the incident, which occurred in northern Afghanistan in 2011.

Better late than never. Condoning child rape isn’t a good look. Congratulations to Sgt. 1st Class Martland, and to everyone else who hates people who hurt children.
