A group of off-duty U.S. airmen and soldiers near Osan air base in South Korea saved a mother and three children Wednesday from a building engulfed in flames.
While shopping off-base, the soldiers and airmen saw smoke billowing from a nearby apartment building. The mother was seen holding her toddler out of a window several stories above ground. The military personnel, along with Korean bystanders, held out blankets allowing the family to jump to safety, saving all four.
“All of a sudden I see a lady with the kids trying to get her out, and I was like ‘no no no no,'” said Air Force Technical Sgt. Stefan Haynes. “I just remember the smoke, the black smoke. You’ve got the ashes on you.”
With the blanket gripped tight, video at the scene shows the baby dropping several feet to safety.
“What happened that day was amazing,” said Prince Enyioko, the father. “I don’t know how I will explain my thanks.” Enyioko’s wife received minor injuries, but their children (aged seven months, three and four) are all well.
