Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s boisterous supporters overwhelmingly say they believe the world is warming, but they blame this warming on natural forces, not humanity, according to a new poll.

A Yale poll of 1,004 American voters found 56 percent of Trump supporters believe in global warming, but only 35 percent said warming worried them. Fifty-five percent of Trump supporters say they believe global warming is a natural phenomenon.

In comparison, 83 percent of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton supporters and 80 percent of Democratic candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders supporters said they are very or somewhat worried about global warming and 76 percent of Clinton supporters and 79 of Sanders supporters think global warming is created by humans.

The real estate mogul has repeatedly stated global warming is a “a total, and very expensive, hoax” and has tweeted that it’s “mythical,” a “con job,” “nonexistent,” and “bullshit.” Trump views policies created to fight global warming as hurting U.S. manufacturing competitiveness with China and told The Washington Post he is “not a great believer in man-made climate change.”

Research shows people who are more concerned about the economy are more likely to be skeptical of green claims about global warming.
