“I just wanted to stop,” she said. “You’d get past an incident and then it would start again. It was really shocking.”

After Kelly questioned Trump about his temperament during the first Republican debate, he said she was “sick, overrated, not a quality journalist and biased.” At one point he said she a “lightweight reporter,” as another article noted.

“The hate can be very ugly and it can be threatening and it can be off-putting when you’re walking around the city with your kids in particular,” Kelly said.

She said she knew it was time to repair the situation. (RELATED: Everyone On Twitter Just Decided Megyn Kelly Won The Fox News Debate)

“I knew all along that if there could be a period of calm on his part, that I could go and approach him and we could get to a better place,” she said.

Kelly promised fireworks during her upcoming interview with Trump that airs May 17 on Fox.

“I think the most electric moment will be when I ask him about this past year and what’s happened between the two of us,” she said.

“It’s one thing to have somebody else ask him about what he’s done and it’s quite another to have me ask him. I think people want to see that.” (RELATED: Megyn Kelly Reveals The Disturbing Thing People Have Done Since She Asked Trump THAT Question)
