Former Speaker of the House [crscore]John Boehner[/crscore] is confident that Donald Trump can defeat Hillary Clinton in the general election in November.

Speaking at the SkyBridge Alternatives Conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, Boehner said, “Anyone who thinks Donald Trump can’t win — just watch.”

Last month, Boehner said that he and Trump were “texting buddies” who had played golf together for years.

Regarding Trump’s meeting with the current Speaker of the House, Boehner said that [crscore]Paul Ryan[/crscore] is probably “trying to help shape the direction of Trump’s policies,” according to the Associated Press.

Boehner said that he doesn’t “doubt there will be a meeting of the minds.” (RELATED: Donald Trump And Paul Ryan Meet)

After his meeting with Trump, Ryan said that he was “encouraged” by what Trump had said.

According to Rick Newman, a Yahoo Finance columnist, Boehner also took a shot at the House Freedom Caucus, claiming that they are “knuckleheads … to this day I don’t know what they want.”

The House Freedom Caucus responded on Twitter claiming, “We want GOP to actually be party of ltd gov’t, less spending; hold WH accountable for exec overreach.”
