Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates slammed Donald Trump for insinuating that terrorism was the cause of the missing plane going from France to Egypt, during a Thursday appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

Morning Joe’s Mika Brzezinski read Trump’s tweet to the former CIA Director in which the presumptive GOP nominee wrote about the disappearance of Egypt Air Flight 804 going from Paris to Cairo

According to Gates, “One of the things that you learn fairly early when you have responsibility is how often the initial reports or information you get on a situation prove to be inaccurate. with the demands of news media and so on, there’s always pressure to immediately react before you know really what’s going on. and that’s a discipline, that frankly a lot of politicians don’t have until they have responsibility.”

Gates went on to say, “Well, I think it prejudges the outcome and let’s just suppose that it turns out not to be a terrorist event. Then, what do you say, having made these allegations and so on? So, it’s always better to wait until you actually know what the facts are before you open up. I realize that’s a very unusual thing in American politics but it oughtta [sic] be tried occasionally.”
