Do NOT Sit Down For An Interview With Katie Couric

If you haven’t thought about Katie Couric in a while, she really doesn’t like that.

Her star has been dimming for quite some time now, to the point where she’s now the “Global News Anchor” for Yahoo. Yahoo. So, in a last-ditch stab at relevance, Couric has produced and narrated a gun-control documentary called Under the Gun. In keeping with her slow slide into obscurity, it was sold to… Epix. Hey, it’s not HBO or Showtime or even Starz, but at least it’s something.

As Stephen Gutowski at the Washington Free Beacon notes, Couric interviewed members of the Virginia Citizens Defense League for the documentary. In case their name didn’t give it away, they sure do like their guns.

At first glance, this seems like a good attempt at balance on Couric’s part. Get the other guy’s point of view. Don’t pretend there’s only one side to the issue, and it just so happens to be your side. Good job, Katie. Right?

Welllllll…

At one point, Couric asked the group, “If there are no background checks for gun purchasers, how do you prevent felons or terrorists from purchasing a gun?” And, according to the documentary, this was the answer she got:

Wow. Katie Couric asked those gun nuts a substantive question about gun control, and they didn’t have an answer!

Except yeah, they did have an answer. They were recording too, and it’s a good thing they were. Here’s the full audio of that exchange:

As you’ll notice, none of that stuff made the documentary. Not only that, but it was replaced with shots of them looking around silently, as if they’d just been shamed into submission by Couric’s truth-bomb.

Now, you might disagree with these people. Couric does, obviously. That’s fine. You can pick apart their arguments, or declare that their opinion doesn’t matter, or give whatever answer you want. Free speech.

But pretending they didn’t have any arguments at all? Using underhanded editing tricks to make it look like you stumped them, when in fact they calmly and thoughtfully rebutted you? That’s absolutely dishonest.

Fortunately for Couric, she’s being dishonest in service of a leftist agenda item and will suffer no repercussions for it. Or at least nothing worse than getting shuffled off to Yahoo and Epix. She’s a good little soldier, and she did her best.

Lefties always have the best arguments. That’s why they have to lie so much.
