A New York City woman’s husband was arrested Monday after he defended his wife from a would-be rapist.

Nenegale Diallo opened the door at Monday night to a strange man. Diallo at first thought the man was attempting to rob her, and told him, “I can give you money.” The attacker, 43-year-old Earl Nash, only stated, “I don’t want your money, I’m going to rape you.”

Diallo frantically called her husband, 61-year-old Mamadou Diallo, who proceeded to confront Nash outside their home after he had managed to rip Nenegale’s clothes off and strike her multiple times in the head.

Diallo grabbed a tire iron and beat Nash in the hallway of their building. By the time police arrived on the scene, Nash had already sustained heavy injuries, including a fatal blow to the head. The attacker was rushed to nearby Lincoln Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

While he was being brought out in handcuffs, Mamadou said simply, “self-defense.”

“I was shocked, I was mad, I had many different emotions going through my mind,” Mamadou’s father, who lives nearby, told reporters. “I don’t care what they say, I’m glad he was there.”

Nenegale later told reporters, “while it was going on, I was thinking that I was going to die.”

Mamadou faces charges for manslaughter and remains in custody.
