During a Friday interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, Mitch McConnell warned Donald Trump against attacking possible political allies, like New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez.

“I said it the other day, and I’ll say it again,” the Senate majority leader told Mitchell. “I thought it was completely unfortunate and unnecessary for our nominee to attack the governor of New Mexico, Susana Martinez.”

McConnell stated that he knows Martinez, the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, very well and called her “one of our outstanding governors.”

“I think these attacks don’t serve the candidate very well,” he added. “At this point, we ought to be, he ought to be trying to unify the party behind him.

“Most of us are committed to supporting him and bringing the party together, and I think he needs to play his part in that as well.
