Hall was scheduled to take over for Lester Holt Thursday and Friday, but the network’s producers yanked her after the cause of Prince’s death was released Thursday afternoon. (RELATED: Prince Died From Opioid Overdose, Law Enforcement Reveals(

“Tamron and NBC News execs discussed it and decided together it was best for her to not fill in,” a source told Page Six. “She’s been open about her friendship with Prince, so for her, this is more than a news story. She’ll fill in again soon.”

Hall’s close relationship with Prince was widely known after he used a photo of her as one of his album covers. (RELATED: PRINCE — DEAD AT 57)

“He assured me he was OK,” Hall said when he died. “He kept saying he was fine and asked me to come to Paisley [Park].”
