Richard Simmons was hospitalized because he was dehydrated, the fitness guru said in a statement Sunday night.

Simmons was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on Friday after someone at his home called 911 and said he was acting strange. When paramedics arrived, they decided he needed to be taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
He told TMZ he was just dehydrated because of the summer heat and now feels great. (RELATED: Richard Simmons Released From Hospital After Reports Of ‘Strange Behavior’)
Simmons has not been seen in public since 2013.

In March, Simmons disputed reports that he was being held hostage by his housekeeper.
“I’m doing good, my health is good, and I’m just sort of enjoying today,” Simmons said by phone.
