Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders addressed his supporters Tuesday in California, declining to acknowledge that the Associated Press had called the election for Clinton.

Instead of acknowledging Clinton’s delegate count, Sanders focused on the opportunity for the “most important primary in the democratic nomination process” to completely change everything by giving him one more state. Bernie supporters cheered the possibility of a continued campaign, while complaining that their voices weren’t being heard in the nominating process.

Sanders is so far behind in the delegate count, California is unlikely to change the outcome of the election. Sanders stated that his strategy moving forward will be to target superdelegates, although Sanders has talked a lot about how undemocratic the superdelegate process is.

The simple reality is that Sanders would have to successfully woo two thirds of all the superdelegates that Clinton has in order to break the finish line. That is a feat that gets harder and harder every day that Sanders stays in the race and draws the ire of establishment Democrats.

When coupled with the endorsement by California governor Jerry Brown and top democrat Senator Barbara Boxer for Clinton , the case for a continued Sanders candidacy gets harder and harder to make. However, that will not stop his supporters from claiming that their voice is more important than those of other democrats. When faced with the news that Clinton has met the threshold to earn the nomination, one Sanders supporter said simply, “disgusting, absolutely horrible to hear.”

Another forlorn Californian stated, “How can you call this on the eve of the California primary? The media is trying to suppress the vote, and they are trying to anoint (Clinton).”  Another supporter, despite the fact that more people voted for Clinton than Sanders, said, “We have to start recognizing that in this country, everyone has a voice.”
