Speaking to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Tuesday afternoon, Katrina Pierson claimed that there’s no way for Michael Reagan to know if his father, the late President Ronald Reagan, would have backed Donald Trump as the Republican nominee for president.

The younger Reagan tweeted Monday that, had he been alive, this would have been the first election in which his father would not align behind the party’s nominee, reports the Washington Examiner.

However, Pierson — the Trump campaign’s national spokeswoman — argued that just like the people who have unexpectedly come out for Trump, there’s no way to predict what President Reagan would have done.

“I think everyone can try to assume what somebody else would do but you simply can’t do that,” she told Blitzer. “In fact, I think Ronald Reagan would probably support Mr. Trump considering he has been a Republican who has been out there, who has broadened the republican base.”

“What I’m saying is his own son wouldn’t know what he would possibly do, because we have a lot of individuals who we would assume wouldn’t support Mr. Trump and who have,” she continued. “So I think it’s safe to say you can assume either way.”
