NBA legend Jerry West is speaking out on behalf of embattled Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James as the team is down two games in the NBA Finals.

West is one of the greatest NBA players ever because of his accomplishments with the Los Angeles Lakers, and the league’s logo is even based off of his appearance. When he speaks people listen and he takes direct aim at James’ biggest critics. (SLIDESHOW: Baller Babes: These Gorgeous Women Love Basketball)

West told ESPN:

With him, the negativity that surrounds him, honestly, to me, I think is so unjust and so unfair. Take him off of the team and see how these teams do. That’s all you have to do. Take him off. And it frustrates the heck out of me when I see some of these players who play this game at an enormously high level get criticized because their teams quote, ‘Can’t win the big one.’ The damn guy gets his teams there every year. He wins. For people to criticize him, I think that’s why he really resonates.

The Cavaliers were absolutely throttled in the first two games of the championship series against the Golden State Warriors.

Game three of the NBA finals is Wednesday night at 9 p.m. EST.
