When ostensibly “educated” people promote positions which are specifically and provably false, you can be sure the promotion was encouraged and promulgated by the political left. A favorite tactic, dependent upon an indoctrinated populace unable to think for itself and ignorant; is to attribute falsehoods to the Founders and have an educator swear to it. Find yourself in debate with one who has swallowed up this propaganda and you undoubtedly will be rejoined by, “Well, where is your degree, that guy is a professor of Constitutional studies.”
Terrific, so let it be established teachers can lie with the best of them and some are just stupid.
From Rolling Stone’s June 13, 2016 headline, “Why It’s Time to Repeal the Second Amendment”:
“Much more profoundly, the Framers and the Constitution were wildly wrong on race. They enshrined slavery into the Constitution in multiple ways, including taking the extreme step of prohibiting the Constitution from being amended to stop the slave trade in the country’s first 20 years. They also blatantly wrote racism into the Constitution by counting slaves as only 3/5 of a person for purposes of Congressional representation.”
Only with a mediocre understanding of American history and the Constitution you would know the delay in abolishing slavery was a necessary compromise made by the Founders to unite the South with the whole nation; to ensure our fledgling experiment could resist the mighty British Empire. Without the compromise there would be no United States today.
Furthermore, the 3/5 clause (a favorite cited by leftists to stigmatize and label the Founders racist) was put in place so that the South would not have a disproportional amount of influence in America’s elections. Rolling Stone’s author neglects to educate the reader. Southern slaves along with Southern Citizens were counted to give Southern States representatives in the Congress. More slaves meant more representatives which meant more influence in government. Those representatives were not going to be voting on behalf of Southern Slaves, they would be voting on behalf of Southern Slave Owners.
In both instances, the Founders were ultimately concerned about freedom for all people, and minimizing the influence of Southern States over the slavery issue.
Frederick Douglass, the Black Abolitionist, in a letter entitled Should the Negro Enlist in the Union Army (July 6, 1863) and addressed, Mr. President and Fellow Citizens, concluded:
“…I hold that the Federal Government was never, in its essence, anything but an anti-slavery government. Abolish slavery tomorrow, and not a sentence or syllable of the Constitution need be altered. It was purposely so framed as to give no claim, no sanction to the claim of property in man. If in its origin slavery had any relation to the government, it was only as the scaffolding to the magnificent structure, to be removed as soon as the building was completed. There is in the Constitution no East, no West, no North, no South, no black, no white, no slave, no slaveholder, but all are citizens who are of American birth.”
Scaffolding for the magnificent structure! Today leftists are doing their level best to tear down America’s magnificent structure. In the last eight years, with Barack Obama’s promise to “fundamentally change America” they have made it a long way down that path.
To truly understand the psychology behind the leftist rhetoric you need to make some simple observations about their policies and actions, and see which are congruent and which are not.
Leftists want to abolish the Second Amendment. They claim to want to ‘save the children‘ (ostensibly from mass shootings), yet the left uses all of its political heft to support and promote Planned Parenthood. There are approximately 750,000 babies killed by abortion each year and they want to save the children?
Deaths due errors in prescription and medical treatment: over 750,000. Where is the outrage over “Medical Violence”?
Deaths due to car accidents: approximately 30,000, no call to persecute the evil car lobby?
“Victims of Gun Violence”: approximately 30,000 … but break down the stats: Homicide deaths approximately 10,000-12,000 a year, suicide about double that. I wonder if suicide by overdose is considered “Hydrocodone violence.” The point is, statistics are skewed and lied about on both sides of the political spectrum, but here is one that isn’t too much debated:

Detroit
Baltimore
New Orleans
Oakland
Memphis
Cleveland
Philadelphia
Kansas City, MO
Chicago
Milwaukee
Tulsa
And how many of those are run by leftists?
Without exception, leftists could care less about the children, about citizens dying, and about the moral fortitude of its people.
Examine leftist policies:
Encourage and support abortion (in addition to the big Planned Parenthood donations that go to Democratic politicians)
Legalizing illicit drugs
Undermining Christianity by persecuting public prayer and establishing laws contrary to its teachings (i.e. gay marriage)
Letting hard criminals out of jail early
Encouraging more immigration legal or otherwise
Repealing the Second Amendment
In each instance the left endeavors to break down the moral fiber of the nation and make people dependent on government, as did the Communist Chinese, the Socialist Nazis and the totalitarian Soviets. In so doing they will replace allegiance to God with allegiance to the state.
Our president declared, “We are not a Christian Nation.” There was a time when we were, is it America’s desire that we are no longer?
Finally, why has the left endeavored to bring more people of Muslim faith into our country? Is it because leftists are open armed, loving and generous to all people? Or is it because, unlike Christianity, the theocratic tenets of Islam venture to intertwine its religion, public policy, and government into a monolith determined to persecute and exterminate any and all opponents, very much in line with the tenets of modern leftist policy?
If they get the chance, they will repeal the Second Amendment today.
The First Amendment tomorrow.
The Fourth and others after that.
