Police surrounded a movie theater in western Germany after a “gunman”fired a “tear gas pistol,” newspaper Bild reports.
The man entered the theater in Viernheim outside Frankfurt around 3 p.m. local time.
Dozens of screaming visitors fled the theater after the man fired a warning shot in the air. Early reports stated that the man injured between 25 and 50 people. Bild later revealed that any injuries were caused by tear gas and not bullets.
The local police called a press embargo and surrounded the theater while the hostage situation was on-going. Police later reported the “gunman” had been shot dead.
Police has not confirmed any information.
