Melissa Rivers: My Mother Was An American Patriot

Melissa Rivers said people never realized how patriotic her mother was.

The iconic comedian died in 2014 after a surgical procedure went awry, and during an one night of the District of Comedy Festival in D.C., her 48-year-old daughter said she loved the country. (RELATED: Joan Rivers: Obama Is Gay And Michelle Is A ‘Tranny’)

“One thing many people did not know about my mother was how much she loved her country,” Melissa told the crowd.

Then the conversation became lighthearted.

“The daughter of two immigrants, she was raised to believe in the American Dream,” she continued. “She was never one to miss an opportunity. She had the opportunity to mooch an invitation to the White House, to steal some silverware from the Senate dining room, to suck up to a lobbyist who might be able to help her down the road.”

“So having a tribute to her in our nation’s capital would have been a dream come true for her. Well, almost a dream come true — it wasn’t a paid appearance.” (RELATED: Melissa Rivers Is Still Paying Joan’s Staff)

“God, that woman was a patriot!”
