A new poll released Thursday showed that a majority of San Diego County residents, including whites, blacks, Latinos, males, and females all support the deportation of illegal aliens.

The SurveyUSA poll also found that of those respondents who want illegal immigrants to be deported, 61 percent would be willing to pay $4,000 in additional taxes if that is what it would take to have mass deportations.

Fifty-four percent of respondents support the deportation of illegal immigrants, while 34 percent believe illegal aliens should be allowed to stay.

Black adults were the most supportive of deportation, at 66 percent. Fifty-two percent of white and Hispanic adults in San Diego County support deportation of illegal immigrants.

Of those who support deportation, 48 percent believe all illegal immigrants, including children, should be deported; 34 percent believe just adults should be deported; and 18 percent responded “don’t know.”

The poll also found that, regardless of support for deportations, 47 percent of adults believe Donald Trump is the best candidate to handle the topic of immigration. Thirty-seven percent prefer Hillary Clinton to handle immigration policy.

Fifty percent of San Diego County adults polled believe President Barack Obama has the wrong approach to immigration, and 36 percent agree with his approach. Obama won in San Diego in 2012 with 52.6 percent support.

The poll was of 500 adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent. It was conducted on June 23.
