Vice President Joe Biden told NPR in an interview that will air Sunday that Democratic Candidate Bernie Sanders said he would formally endorse Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

“I’ve talked to Bernie, Bernie’s going to endorse her, this is going to work out,” Biden told NPR. “The Democrats were coalescing even before this happens.”

Sanders announced earlier this month that he would vote for Clinton in the general election, but stopped short of endorsing the Democratic front-runner. After his loss to Clinton in California, Sanders shifted the tone of his campaign to focus on winning a voice in the Democratic convention to help shape the Party platform.

Sanders supporters quickly note that super delegates don’t vote until the Democratic convention, adding that Sanders still has leverage in the platform shaping process.

Sanders said repeatedly he would do anything to ensure that Trump didn’t win in the general election, a statement widely interpreted as saying he will eventually support Clinton as the Democratic nominee.

“Joe and I talked about three weeks ago, and as I said, right now my hope is we can reach an agreement on some very important issues and I can go forward to the millions of people who supported me and say, ‘Look this is the progress we’ve made, this is where we’re gonna go as a country,’” Sanders“ told NBC after he heard about Biden’s announcement.
