Libertarian presidential hopeful Gary Johnson said presumed GOP nominee Donald Trump is racist and therefore should be disqualified from being president during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday.
Johnson, who is currently polling at 10 percent according to a recent Wall Street Journal poll, highlighted Trump’s recent comments at a town hall saying he would look into replacing Muslim TSA agents with veterans following a woman’s remark she would rather see them working than people wearing “heeby jobbies” in reference to hijabs.
“He has said 100 things that would disqualify anyone else from running for president but doesn’t seem to affect him,” he said. “It’s racist.”
Johnson would need to climb to 15 percent in the polls to qualify for the presidential debates.
He has caught the attention of some Trump critics, with 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney having said he is considering voting for the candidate.
Johnson served as New Mexico governor for two terms and is running alongside former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld.
