Gwen Stefani said the aftermath of her divorce went from “horrible” to “hopeful” after she befriended Blake Shelton.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 46-year-old singer said she hit “rock bottom” after she got divorced from Gavin Rossdale. Stefani said things were horrible, but “flipped” when she met Shelton.

“Of course you go through the ‘Why me?'” Stefani said. “And feel sorry for yourself. But then I was like, ‘No, this happened to me already and I made something good out of it,’ and that was Tragic Kingdom.”

The singer said she felt relieved when Shelton told his costars on “The Voice” that he was getting divorced, too.

“It was like being handed this gift of a friend who was going through the exact same thing at the exact same time,” she said. “And then everything flipped. It went from horrible to, like, hopeful and like, ‘Wow, God, you just don’t know what’s gonna happen next.'”

The couple have recorded a duet for Shelton’s newest album. “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” is currently number one on the country charts.

“I can’t believe I’m number one on a country chart.”
