Chris Christie doesn’t think that Melania Trump plagiarized the speech she gave at the Republican National Convention on Monday, according to an interview he gave on the TODAY show Tuesday morning.
TODAY show host Matt Lauer asked Christie whether, as a former prosecutor, he believed that “a case could be made” against Mrs. Trump for plagiarizing Mrs. Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
“Not when 93 percent of the speech is completely different from Michelle Obama’s,” Christie replied.
While Christie admitted that the speeches shared some “common thoughts,” he denied that Mrs. Trump’s speech crossed a line. He also said that the first day of a convention is always “the worst,” and that everyone would soon move on from this controversy.
