Black rapper A$AP Rocky said “all lives matter” in an interview Wednesday as he talked about the “bandwagon stuff” of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Rocky had an interview with the Breakfast Club to clarify comments he made in a 2015 Time Out New York interview that resurfaced earlier this week, reports The Guardian. In the Time Out New York article, Rocky told the outlet that he did not want to talk about the shooting in Ferguson because he could not relate to it.
“I don’t wanna talk about no f**king Ferguson and s**t because I don’t live over there!” he said. “I live in f**king Soho and Beverly Hills. I can’t relate.”
In his interview with the Breakfast Club, he clarified comments he previously made in 2015, saying he had been wrongly quoted and had been mourning a friend when he gave the interview.
“I just get upset, and what I was really trying to say there was, like, yo, I just, I hate when the bandwagon stuff start. I mean, how come, you know, black lives only matter when a police take ’em, when a police officer takes it?” A$AP Rocky said.
“And it should be like, black lives, it should matter when a black life take it. You know what I mean? It should always matter. All lives matter!” He continued.
A$AP Rocky went on to say that he did not feel he could comment on those events since he did not witness them himself.
“People don’t know what they talking about. They see what they read,” he stated.
